With our guide, Keith Williams, the Susquehannock Wildlife Society and members of the community embarked on our first quest to explore this scenic river as we had never before seen it. With the creek flowing more than 50 miles before it reaches the Susquehanna, Deer Creek’s watershed covers 38% of Harford County’s land area and runs through a mostly forested and agricultural landscape that also includes portions of York and Baltimore Counties. Despite a number of human disturbances that have added sedimentation to areas of the creek, in many places it still appears pristine. Because of that, the creek is home to a wide diversity of wildlife but not all species have been able to withstand the changes, the endangered Maryland Darter, a fish found nowhere else in the world that may now be extinct. Join us as we enter a world of tranquility and discovery under these life giving waters that even if no longer home to the Maryland Darter, are still incredible habitat for many other beautiful local fish species.
